A Review of the Destin Dog Park

Visitors to the Emerald Coast are often dismayed to discover that Okaloosa County does not allow dogs on the pristine white sand beaches. Fortunately there are alternatives for both local and visiting dog owners. One such dog haven is the Destin Dog Park, and although there may not be waves and sand at the park, it does offer a great place for dogs to run and just be a dog.

The Destin Dog Park encompasses about an acre of fenced run area located on the corner of Commons and Indiana Drive. There are two fenced enclosures, one for dogs weighing over thirty pounds and a second for smaller dogs. As with most dog parks, only well-socialized non-aggressive dogs should be brought into the park and even then they must be kept under constant supervision.

The park offers plenty of shade, water stations, benches, waste bags and receptacles for disposing of doggy droppings. The park is closed every Tuesday until 10 a.m. for maintenance.
